Phoenix Primary School

Brief

This newly built school has a wonderfully light - filled reception area. The head teacher wanted to maximise the impact of the space to all visitors to the school.

Inspiration

The main concept behind the work is the Phoenix - the mythical bird which rises up from flames to be re-born. In consultation with the school, I decided to tessellate the bird so that a broad surface area could be covered whilst maintaining unity. The children chose their own colours, but I arranged them like so, to again create a unified artwork.

Materials

Window film - both transparent and opaque black (for outlining the individual birds).

Technique

The children cut and collaged self adhesive window film to create their own individual birds which I then stuck to a large clear film. This in turn, was then applied to the window by professional sign-makers.
